By combining all these together, I get the following:

  • Live TV and a DVR with all recordings AD-FREE

  • Tracking of all the streaming shows/movies I am currently watching

  • One remote for seamlessly accessing all my TV content

  • Quickly see all the TV that I am currently watching / recording

LINEAR TV GUIDE TO CHANNELS DVR

Apple TV HD Setup, Installing App On My iPhone & Changing Channels / Their Ordering

Initial Setup:

  • Take ATV, ATV remote & ATV power cable/supply out of its box

  • Connect ATV to TV/AVR via HDMI cable (not supplied)

  • Connect ATV to Internet via ethernet cable (not supplied)

  • Connect ATV's power cable (in box)

Turn On TV To ATV HD:

  • Call Dad to lead me thru the overview and a few details

  • Using 5-way, move left/right over the 5 apps on the top row - see the change to the Top Shelf

Install Channels App on My iPhone (or reinstall the Channels App on my ATV HD)

  • Go to 'App Store' on my Apple device & scroll over to search for 'Channels'

  • Select "Channels Whole Home DVR" app on my iPhone / ATV HD and then click to download the app

  • Once downloaded, click on 'Open' to start the app

  • Channels will first ask me to connect to my Channels DVR server at EnjoyMyTV land

  • Click on "Away From Home"

  • Enter the following IP address:   "192.168.0.118"

  • Click 'Save'

  • All of my items should immediate load

My Channel Favorites     & Adding / Deleting Channels;  Changing Order of Channels:

  • Instead of seeing in the guide all channels in numerical order, I just see my favorite channels in my order

  • If I am missing a channel or want to change the ordering, I call Dad to make the changes for me

  • Then I check to make sure the changes appear on my Channels app on my ATV HD or on my iPhone

Choosing What To Watch - A Recording Or Live TV

On My ATV

  • The app opens into all of my recorded 'TV Shows', from which I can select a recording to watch

  • Or I can scroll over to the left hand menu and choose:

    • 'On Now' - displays just the live on air shows / movies in my priority order - click to start watching

    • 'Guide' - displays vertically my channels in my priority order and horizontally by time - click to start watching

    • 'Movies' - displays "Up Next', 'Recently Recorded' & 'Movies' - click to start watching

On My iPhone

  • The app opens to whatever menu item I was last looking at

  • I can choose something to watch from here or I can change to a different display:​​

  • 'On Now' - displays just the on air shows / movies in my priority order - click to start watching

  • 'Guide' - displays vertically my channels in my priority order and horizontally by time - click to start watching

  • 'Library' - display all of my recorded movies to select from - click to start watching

Watching A Recorded Show Ad-Free

  • 10/20 minutes after a one/two hour show finishes recording, all ads are marked for auto-skipping the ads :-)

  • When you click 'Pause', 'Rewind' or 'Forward', I will see the recordings timeline, with ads appropriately indicated

  • When watching a recording, ads will be auto-skipped with "Commercial Detected' appearing upper right screen

  • Of course, I can 'Forward' to or 'Rewind' to a ad-indicated area and watch an ad or two

Watching Live TV

  • The channel plays its content & I can our course 'Pause'/'Play', 'Rewind', & 'Forward'

  • There are setting for 'Rewind' & 'Forward' that I can change by calling Dad to lead my thru how to do this

    • 'Rewind':     7 seconds​

    • 'Forward':  30 seconds

Recording Shows / Movies via 'Passes' on Channels DVR

In the Guide, I See A Show / Movie I Want To Record

  • Press and hold "Select" button on Apple remote or long press on show/movie on my iPhone

  • Details of the show appear along with:

    • ATV app:      'Record', 'Record with Options' or 'Create a Pass'

    • iPhone app:  'Watch', 'Record', 'Pass'

  • Click on my option and follow the rest

Create A DVR Pass For Recordings - Either a TV Show Or a Recurring Movie Series

  • Launch Channels DVR app or go to the app on my iPhone

  • Scroll to 'Search' on left hand menu or click on 'Search' on iPhone

  • Search for the show / movie I want and matching icons of shows / movies will appear

  • When found, click on the item's icon

  • Click on 'Create Series Pass'

  • Confirm/change the pass settings and then click on 'Create Pass'

Check Schedule of Upcoming Recordings

  • Launch Channels DVR app or go to the app on my iPhone

  • Scroll to 'Schedule' on left hand menu or click on 'Settings>Scheduled Recordings' on iPhone

  • Scroll up / down to see all the upcoming recordings by day

  • Click on any show to change its pass

Change Priority of My Passes - You shouldn't need to do this with 3+ tuners available to me

  • Launch Channels DVR app or go to the app on my iPhone

  • Scroll to 'Settings>Your Passes' on left hand menu or click on 'Settings>Your Passes' on iPhone

  • Click 'Edit' to change the priority ordering of passes

  • Click on any show and move it up / down; click to position it

Delete a Pass

  • Launch Channels DVR app or go to the app on my iPhone

  • Scroll to 'Settings>Your Passes' on left hand menu or click on 'Settings>Your Passes' on iPhone

  • Click on the Pass I want to delete and click on 'Delete'

Overview of the Apple TV App

Key Capabilities:

  • 'Up Next' - which also displays on the 'Top Shelf' of the ATV

    • Tracks the next episode to watch of all the TV shows I am currently watching

    • Tracks movies I want to watch next

  • Inter-connects with all major streaming apps thus providing one "watch next" list across all my streaming apps ! ! !

    • Prime Video, Hulu, HBO Max, Disney+, Peacock, Discovery+ as well as major TV Everywhere apps​

    • Not included is Netflix, which is why the Netflix app is on the ATV 'Top Row'

  • Searches for shows / movies across all the streaming apps 'connected' to the Apple TV App

  • Access to the Apple TV+ app for Apple's streaming content

  • Access to 'Movies' & 'TV Shows' for rent / purchase on Apple's iTunes

  • Access via its 'Library' to all the movies / TV shows we/I have bought and reside on Apple's iTunes

  • Access to 'Search' to find a TV show / movie by title

  • 'Channels>Choose just the ones you want' is Apple's way to subscribe to a list of steaming apps instead of directly

Connecting New Streaming Media Apps to the Apple TV App

Add A New Streaming Media App To My Apple TV

  • Go to the Apple TV Store and search for the new streaming media app

  • Download the new streaming media app to the Apple TV

  • Open and log in to the new app, et al

Connect the Apple TV App to My New Streaming Media App

  • Launch the Apple TV App

  • Scroll down a ways to "Streaming Apps" Section

  • Scroll over the apps until I find my new app or click on "Connect More Steaming Apps"

  • Click on my new app's icon

  • Click on "Connect" - the new app is now connected to my Apple TV app

Watching Something I Am Currently Watching

From The Top Shelf On My ATV

  • Scroll over to the "Apple TV App" icon on the 'Top Row' of the ATV HD

  • All of the TV shows I am currently watching & movies I want to watch are displayed

  • Scroll over to the TV show / movie I want to watch and click on it's icon
  • This will take me directly to that episode / move on whichever streaming app its on

  • Watch the content

  • When done, click the 'Home' button on the Apple remote to go back to the 'Top Shelf' & 'Top Row'​​

Adding / Deleting TV Shows / Movies From My 'Up Next' List

Watch A TV Show Which Will Add It to the 'Up Next' List

  • Scroll over to the 'Search' icon 

  • Enter what I want to search for​

  • When I find it, click on it's icon and then click on "Play Episode'

  • Watch the episode

  • The next episode is added to the 'Up Next' list

Find A TV Show / Movie To Add It to the 'Up Next' List

  • Scroll over to the 'Search' icon 

  • Enter what I want to search for​

  • When I find it, click on it's icon and then click on "Add to Up Next' - which adds it to the 'Up Next' list

Deleting a TV Show / Movie from 'Up Next' List

  • Scroll over to the 'Search' icon 

  • Enter what I want to search for​

  • When I find it, click on it's icon and then click on "In Up Next' - which removes it from 'Up Next' list
